Professional Paver Installer
Sol Scapes installs a wide range of paver brands including Belgard, one of the most respected names in the industry. Our team has extensive experience with proper installation techniques, base preparation, and pattern execution across all major paver product lines. We hold ourselves to the highest standards on every project — the right base depth, proper compaction, and precise cuts that make the difference between a paver surface that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 30.
We install Belgard's full product line along with other premium paver brands, giving you the widest selection of colors, textures, and styles to create the outdoor space you've been envisioning.
Types of Pavers We Install
Pavers come in a range of materials, each with distinct aesthetics, durability characteristics, and price points. Sol Scapes helps you select the right product for your project, climate, and budget:
- Interlocking concrete pavers — The most popular and versatile option. Interlocking pavers come in dozens of shapes, colors, and textures, from clean modern lines to rustic tumbled finishes. They lock together mechanically, creating a surface that flexes with ground movement instead of cracking like poured concrete.
- Premium and tumbled pavers — Designed to mimic the look of natural stone with the consistency and strength of engineered concrete. Tumbled finishes, textured surfaces, and large-format options create a high-end aesthetic with superior durability in Utah's freeze-thaw climate.
Paver Applications
Pavers are incredibly versatile and can transform virtually any outdoor surface. Sol Scapes designs and installs pavers for a wide range of applications across the Wasatch Front:
- Patios — Create an outdoor living room with a paver patio that handles Utah's weather without cracking. Add curves, inlays, borders, and multi-level designs that poured concrete simply can't replicate.
- Driveways — Paver driveways make a dramatic first impression. Interlocking pavers rated for vehicular traffic support the weight of cars, trucks, and even RVs without cracking or settling when installed on a proper base.
- Walkways and paths — Guide guests through your landscape with elegant paver walkways that complement your home's architecture. From formal straight paths to meandering garden walks, pavers offer design flexibility that concrete can't match.
- Pool decks — Pavers are the premier choice for pool surrounds. They stay cooler than concrete, provide slip resistance, and won't crack from freeze-thaw cycles around the pool's waterline.
- Fire pit areas — A paver pad creates the perfect foundation for a fire pit or outdoor fireplace, with heat-resistant materials that define the gathering space and protect the surrounding landscape.
Our Paver Installation Process
Proper paver installation is a precision craft. The base preparation is actually more important than the pavers themselves — a bad base leads to settling, shifting, and an uneven surface within the first few years. Here's how Sol Scapes installs pavers to last:
- Design consultation — We meet on-site to discuss your vision, take measurements, and help you select the right paver style, color, and pattern. We provide a detailed 3D rendering so you can visualize the finished project.
- Excavation — We excavate to a depth of 8–12 inches depending on the application (deeper for driveways, standard for patios). All organic material, roots, and unstable soil are removed.
- Base installation — We install 6–8 inches of compacted road base in lifts (layers), compacting each lift with a plate compactor. This creates the solid, stable foundation that prevents settling.
- Bedding sand — A 1-inch layer of coarse bedding sand is screeded perfectly level on top of the compacted base. This provides a smooth, even surface for setting the pavers.
- Paver laying — Pavers are set by hand in the chosen pattern, cut precisely at edges and curves using a wet saw. We maintain consistent joint spacing and check alignment throughout the installation.
- Edge restraint — Heavy-duty edge restraints are spiked into the base around the entire perimeter. This critical step prevents the pavers from shifting outward over time.
- Polymeric sand — We sweep polymeric sand into the joints and activate it with water. This sand hardens to lock the pavers together, prevent weed growth, and resist ant infiltration while still allowing water to drain through.
- Final compaction — A plate compactor with a protective pad is run over the finished surface to seat the pavers firmly into the bedding sand and lock everything together.
Paver Cost in Utah
Paver pricing depends on the material, pattern complexity, and project scope. Here are typical installed costs for Utah paver projects:
- Standard interlocking concrete pavers: $20–$24 per square foot
- Premium/tumbled concrete pavers: $24–$32 per square foot
A typical 300–500 sq ft paver patio costs $6,000–$16,000 installed. While pavers cost more upfront than poured concrete, they offer significant long-term advantages: individual pavers can be replaced if damaged, the surface flexes instead of cracking, and a well-installed paver surface lasts 25–30+ years with minimal maintenance.
Advantages of Pavers Over Concrete
Utah homeowners often debate between pavers and poured concrete. Here's why pavers win for most patio and outdoor living projects:
- Repairability — If a paver cracks or stains, you replace that single paver. With concrete, a crack means living with it or tearing out the entire slab.
- Drainage — Pavers with sand joints allow water to percolate through, reducing runoff and helping meet Utah's stormwater management goals. Permeable paver systems can eliminate the need for additional drainage infrastructure.
- Aesthetics — Pavers offer vastly more design options than concrete — hundreds of colors, shapes, patterns, and textures. Mix and match for borders, inlays, and custom designs that make your outdoor space truly unique.
- No cracking — While concrete slabs inevitably crack (it's not if, but when), individual pavers flex with the ground's natural movement. Utah's freeze-thaw cycles cause significant ground movement, and pavers handle it without the surface damage you see on concrete.
- Immediate use — Unlike concrete that requires 7–28 days of curing, a paver installation can be walked on and used the same day it's completed.
